Our 2023 Gathering will once again be held at Mount Norris Scout Reservation in Eden, VT. With its huge dining hall, this is the perfect venue for the Gathering, since it will take place rain or shine!
The Gathering will take place on August 26th & 27th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It will open for Nulhegan Citizens only on August 25th, commencing at 10:00 am. (See comments on the right regarding food and lodging.)
Throughout the weekend there will singing, storytelling, drumming, and dancing along with other activities to be enjoyed by adults and children. For example, last year people had the opportunity to learn how to pound ash. There was also a lesson given on making a bustle for regalia. (Check back here for more information as we draw closer to the event.)
Lunch will be provided on Saturday, to the public. Donations will be accepted. Camping is available on a first come, first served basis. Contact Miss Lucy for reservations or to request special dietary provisions (see email address on the right).
Vendors of authentic native crafts will be set up throughout the weekend. Please note that you should bring cash, because many of the vendors have no way to process credit card payments. Though we won't know who all of our vendors will be until that weekend, you may find all sorts of great hand-made and hand-crafted items at the Gathering. Many of our citizens are great artists and you may find items such as hand-woven baskets, drums, rattles, jewelry, bags, pouches, paintings, professional photographic prints, children's books, and much more. Last year, we even had one of our youngest citizens selling some marvelous customized tea blends!
Please note that this is never a powwow - it is a Gathering of friends and family for the Nulhegan Abenaki Tribe. Wearing regalia is optional. The public is always welcome to participate in all of the activities, as well as the meal, and is invited to attend both Saturday and Sunday.
This is a drug and alcohol-free event.
NOTE:
Meals will not be provided on Friday. Lunch on Saturday will include the public, as our guests. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to citizens on Saturday and Sunday. Supper will also be provided to citizens on Saturday.
Contact misslucyn@gmail.com for special dietary needs or information about camping facilities that will be available, starting Friday, August 25th.
Attention Abenaki Vendors:
We welcome you to vend at our Gathering with no vendor fee. However, we do request that you contact our Events Committee so we can make plans and let you know the requirements. Please email us at: events@abenakitribe.org
Last year our Gathering was held at a new venue - the Camp Sunrise Cub Scouting Camp, 2050 Sunset Lake, Benson, VT 05743 .
As always, there will was drumming, singing, and dancing in the circle. There were lots of vendors from the Abenaki community as well as learning opportunities for many traditional skills such as ash pounding, leatherwork, beading, and so forth.
